Artificial Intelligences learn to judge books by their covers

 

How can you tell a book’s genre by looking its cover?

At Kyushu University in Japan Brian Kenji Iwana and Seiichi Uchida have trained a ‘deep neural network’ (a sort of artificial intelligence) to study book covers and determine the category of book they come from.

That’s an interesting perspective: can machine judge books by their covers? We know that they already judge people by their faces….
